❓ FAQ's

How does the word counter calculate words?

Words are counted by splitting text on whitespace (spaces, tabs, newlines) after trimming. A word is any sequence of non-whitespace characters. This matches how most academic and publishing style guides define a word.

Does this word counter work offline?

Yes — once the page loads, the word counter works 100% offline. All calculations happen inside your browser using JavaScript. No internet connection is needed after the page loads.

Is my text stored anywhere?

No. Your text never leaves your device. APluscalc does not send, store, or log any text you type or paste into the counter. The tool is entirely browser-based.

How is reading time calculated?

Reading time is estimated using the average adult reading speed of 238 words per minute, based on research published in Reading and Writing journal. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute, which is the typical conversational speech rate.

What counts as a sentence?

Sentences are counted by detecting punctuation marks — periods (.), exclamation marks (!), and question marks (?). Multiple consecutive punctuation marks (like '...') count as one sentence boundary.

Can I use this for SEO content checks?

Absolutely. Use the character counter to check your meta description length (aim for 155–160 characters) and page title (50–60 characters). The word count helps you hit the optimal blog post length (1,500–2,500 words) for SEO performance.
